In Real Life[edit | edit source]

The M1942 was an upgrade of an existing weapon system. It had a thicker shield, a longer barrel, and a reduced height. This height made it ideal for ambushes, though it came at the downside of operators having to kneel while firing it. The hinged armor also made it cramped for the loader and the gunner, though on the bright side, it added some marginal protection against shells and bullets fired at it.

The advent of the "Big Cat" German tanks rendered it slightly obsolete and replaced by the ZiS-2. However, the gun saw a new life as an ambush weapon against these tanks, and as an infantry support gun when it was firing HE and canister shot. Production ceased in 1945 due to 45mm not being useful against armor anymore.
