The M3 Scout Car, aka the White Scout car, was a light armored car used during the Second World War by a plethora of allied nations in support, logistics, and scouting roles.

IRL[edit | edit source]

The M3A1 shares a technical designation with its beefier and far more recognized cousin, the M3A1 half-track. It also looks an awful lot like the front of the M3A1. Typical loadout was a single forward-mounted .50 BMG and two .30 BMGs on the side, and had a maximum carry capacity of seven men.

The M3A1 was completely inadequate as a combat vehicle, but served the allies as a useful, albeit largely overshadowed, utility vehicle. The Soviets used them as artillery tugs for their AT cannons, and the British were known to use it as a field ambulance and artillery spotting vehicle. During the Africa campaign, they performed adequately as a screening and scouting force.

However, the M3A1 was determined to be unsuitable and was phased out in favor of the M8 and M20 armored cars. In spite of this, the marines were known to keep a few around, even though they never got to knock heads with the Imperial Japanese. Other vehicles were either exported to the Chinese and Free French Army, with the remaining inventory being sold to many Latin American countries. The M3A1 is still in service in the Dominican Republic today.
