Dorn's philosophy visualised in one suit of Power Armour. Model done by Varaken.

The Huscarls were the elite Terminator bodyguards of Primarch Rogal Dorn during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. They are unique in the sense that their Uncle in Blue resurrected them. So unlike most Legionary Honour Guards, the Huscarls are still around.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The original Huscarls have their root in the Great Crusade. However, as aforementioned, since the influx of Primaris Space Marines into the ranks of the Imperial Fists, the Huscarls have been reconstituted by order of Roboute Guilliman. The new Huscarls, however, focus on organizing the defense of Imperial worlds rather than protecting their own dad due to...obvious reasons. Mr. Practical over here seems to believe that disbanding such an elite fighting force was a waste of talent, and the Huscarls is the but the first of old Legionary Honour Guards being revived for such ideals.

As far as equipment goes, Huscarls are a bunch of Cataphractii-clad badasses that are as stubborn as their dad when it comes to holding the fucking line. As far as armament goes, these guys are exclusively assault Terminators. Which means that they go all in with the bonk hammer. The only ranged weapon they can carry is a Grenade Harness and that's it. They could carry all types of Power Weapons, although the Powerfist is the most popular, and their leaders are the only chads badass enough to wield a Solerite Power Gauntlet. Yes, that is Custodes equipment their carrying around, which shows how privileged the Sons of Dorn are. Also, all of them wield Vigil pattern storm shields, so yeah, no one is getting past these living wall of fists.

Crunch[edit | edit source]

On the Horus Heresy tabletop, they are a Cataphractii Command Squad with Vigil Storm Shields, Deep Strike and Stubborn. These guys go a step beyond mere shield walls thanks to Unyielding Bulwark, which gives a unit with at least three models (meaning your Praetor doesn't need to worry) with this rule the Battle-Hardened (1) ability, but only when they are charged, to avoid Instant Death by something like Power Fists. For the most part you can just treat them as a melee Retinue with super-shields, especially if you pick up Solarite Gauntlets, just as it was intended.
