Voidraven Bomber

The Voidraven Bomber AKA The Flying Cheese Monger is one of the most powerful vehicles in the Dark Eldar army list. It is an extremely agile aircraft capable of outmaneuvering the fliers of most other factions with ease. It also looks pretty cool too.
In 8th Edition the Voidraven's primary armament consists of either a pair of Void Lances or a pair of Dark Scythes; both weapon types are primarily for anti-armor usage. These weapons are supplemented by Voidraven Missiles that can be fired with one of two different profiles. Just to crank things up to maximum bullshittery, each Voidraven also carries a single Void Mine which introduces darklight into real space in a catastrophic implosion that leaves nothing but an enormous hemispherical crater in its wake. Deploying one is enough to send your opponent into a flying RAGE as his largest squad of Grey Knights gets reduced into free floating molecules. It is for this reason that the Voidraven is one of the most feared weapons of the Dark Eldar both in fluff and on the tabletop.
The Voidraven relies mainly on speed and stealth to evade the enemy, possessing a 60" base move that can be increased by a further 20" when it Advances. It is also equipped with a Night Shield that makes it virtually undetectable to its unsuspecting victims below; this translates to a 5+ invulnerable save against ranged attacks.
Missile Armament[edit | edit source]
Like its smaller cousin the Razorwing Jetfighter the Voidraven Bomber can choose from a wide selection of missile types, all of which kill the enemy in a variety of seemingly impractical yet deadly ways:
- Monoscythe Missiles: This missile's warhead is designed to release a wave of energy at head-height that decapitates nearby foes. No longer available in 8th.
- Necrotoxin Missiles: Filled with deadly neurotoxins, this missile's warhead explodes in toxic shards that kill and pin the enemy. No longer available in 8th.
- Shatterfield Missiles: This missle has two separate detonation chambers. The first one sucks away all warmth, turning the foe into ice-like statues. The second one sends out a powerful blast that blows the brittle enemy to pieces.
- Implosion Missiles: Targets hit by the blast of this weapon instantly implode and collapse into themselves, leaving behind nothing except charred remains.
Thoughts on Aesthetics[edit | edit source]
The Voidraven is one of the most visually striking models in the Dark Eldar army list. This is due in no small part part to the model's highly detailed cockpits, particularly the huge and beautiful bombardier station. So, try not to paint over the canopies, ok? Otherwise you're just covering up one of the model's best features.
