The Ichor Revenants are a chapter of partially Codex compliant Adeptus Astartes, created during the fourth founding in 500.M34, the Ichor Revenants were a descendant of the Ichor Angels chapter. The Ichor Revenants would be allocated a Death world acting as the moon for a much larger planet, devastated by the Death guard during the Horus heresy to serve as the perfect homeworld, and recruiting world as well. The foundations for the chapters inception were set when a company of Astartes broke off from the Ichor Angels and took refuge on one of the systems planets. A task force of two companies (4th and 5th) were dispatched to eliminate the renegade marines, but when they arrived. The Death Guard had already taken root on the planet, brought into reality by unholy rituals, that were created by the renegade Astartes. The two companies were additionally cut off from reinforcements due to a system-wide warp storm erupting into reality. It took Seven months for reinforcements to arrive, and the two companies had been brought down to 60 marines. The reinforcements managed to drive the Death Guard out of the system, fleeing into the warp storm to avoid annihilation.

After the war was over, the remaining Captain of the 4th company requested that he and his 60 Astartes break away from the Chapter and form their own, dedicated to hunting traitors, especially the Death Guard and Black Legion.

The Ichor Revenants geneseed was originally supplied by their parent Chapter, however: They eventually requested, and successfully acquired a batch of original Blood Angels geneseed, which they began to secretly tamper with, mixing both the Ichor Angel and Blood Angel gene-stock together to create a slightly more stable line of geneseed. This removed the flaw where a marine with the Ichor Angels genes would have an unnatural skin color, but would also increase the craving to spill blood even more. As such: Each member of the chapter is put through constant, rigorous training on self-control.
