The Knights of Blood are labeled as renegade by the Impirium, but some stay loyal and fight for the Emporer. They were deemed heretic after the inquisition faked orders and sent them to a world with a few thousand guardsmen on it that was under siege from chaos forces. The inquisition knew the flaws the Knights of Blood had and sent them to defend against the chaos that was a squad of Black legionaries leading a large army of cultist. When the smoke cleared and the inquisition came they found all the guardsmen dead along with all the chaos followers. The knights of Blood were a pain in the ass for the inquisition because they were close to finding ways of controling the Black Rage, and red Thirst. The chaplains of the Knights of Blood are known to not be affected by the Black Rage, and that is why they are the ones that are the calm factor in the chapter. Chaplains in the chapter play a huge part in the organization and survival of the chapter, because the chapter has no official Apothecaries, because they tried creating new space marines using other methods. The Apothecaries tried taking space marine DNA and using it to reshape DNA of a unborn baby in a human mother so that they wouldnt have to just use gene-seed anymore they could use this method and save gene-seed. The Chaplains heard of this and the at time High Chaplain saw this as heresy and had all the Apothecaries put to death. It was later found out that the Chaplain was a follower of Nurgle in secret and didn't want change. When this came out in the open in the chapter many devoted followers of that Chaplain split off and worshipped chaos, but over half of them stayed loyal. After a few hundred years of civil war they came back together and the space marines in the Knights of Blood could worship freely and they would attack everyone that was worth killing in the eyes of the chapters Librarians. When the inquisition deemed them heretic they also destroyed their homeworld, so the chapter became fleet based. The chapter has no chapter master they are ran by a Blood Council which is all the leaders of the chapter that are in high or commanding positions. The first company captian could beconsidered the leader since in therory he is the highest rank but still he cant act alone the council has to agree on any actions that effect the greater good of the chapter. Based on the loyalty of the space marine with specialties like Chaplains or Librarians get to choose their name such as Dark Apostle. Standard bearers are rare in the chapter and its only given to troops who charge head on everytime not caring if they die. The most famous standard bearer used the standard as a lanse most of the time and he rode his bike.
