Baervan Wildwanderer is the Gnome God of Nature and Travel in Dungeons & Dragons. He is considered something of a racial patron to the forest gnomes in particular.
Publication History[edit | edit source]
Baervan is part of the "2nd generation" of gnomish gods; the first wave of gnome deities created in the article "The Gnomish Point of View" in Dragon Magazine #61 to serve under the chief gnome god, Garl Glittergold, who had debuted in the Deities & Demigods Cyclopedia.
Jumping the Gender Barrier[edit | edit source]
When the gnomish pantheon was expanded upon for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition in "Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes", there was something new about several of the gods. Whereas the gnomish pantheon had originally been an all-male pantheon, the new 5e version was sporting several new goddesses... all made by the quick and easy process of genderbending several of the traditional gods.
The goddess version of Baervan is portrayed as one of the least mischievous of the gnomish gods; a quiet and peaceful soul whose true love is exploring the wilderness and making friends with all the little critters she can meet. Unfortunately, her devoted traveling companion is Chiktikka Fastpaws, who is enough of a mischievous little shit to more than makeup for Baervan's own disinterest in pranking and who constantly gets her into trouble.
